Freelance and Contracted Driver Types

Why Waybox Supports Freelance and Contract Drivers?

Waybox offers both contract and freelance driver options to give fleets greater control, reliability, and flexibility when managing jobs.

  • Contract drivers are designed for consistency and speed. Jobs are automatically assigned to them by the system and cannot be accepted or rejected, helping fleets ensure reliable coverage and fast dispatch for core operations.

  • Freelance drivers are designed for flexibility. They can accept or reject jobs, making them ideal for handling overflow, peak periods, or unexpected increases in demand.

By supporting both driver types, Waybox allows fleets to prioritise automatic assignment through contract drivers, while still having access to freelance drivers when additional capacity is needed.

Driver assignment and flexibility

  • The system always attempts to assign jobs to contract drivers first, before offering them to freelance drivers.

  • Drivers can be assigned to more than one fleet, allowing fleets to share driver resources.

This setup helps fleets scale efficiently, reduce delays, and maintain control over how jobs are allocated across different driver types and fleets.

How to locate the Freelance and Contract section: Waybox Management → Drivers → Select the driver

You can control whether a driver is treated as a contract or freelance driver through the driver settings in Management.

  • When 'Can Accept/Reject Jobs’ is enabled, the driver is set as a freelance driver.
Freelance drivers receive job offers and can choose to accept or reject them.

  • When ‘Can Accept/Reject Jobs’ is disabled, the driver is set as a contract driver.
Contract drivers are automatically assigned jobs by the system and cannot accept or reject them.

This setting allows you to easily switch a driver between contract and freelance based on your operational needs.
